During planning for worship a while back Rev. Shrum, the pastor at Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill, mentioned he was going to make use of the old hymn Standing in the Need of Prayer for this past week’s sermon. He then asked if we could come up with something to make it work in a contemporary setting, so I came up with a blues based arrangement for worship. Does this arrangement fit the standard song style of many contemporary worship services? No probably not.
But I feel you can’t go wrong with the blues.
There is just something about a simple blues simple form, the simple harmonic progressions, the reliance on 2 and 4. In that simplicity I feel we can just sing – and sing with abandon.
After all – sometime or another – we are all just standing there in the need of prayer.
Here’s the video from worship:
Nice job…
Why thank you, I’m so thankful to have the opportunity and freedom to be creative with the music for worship each week.
